Legislative Agenda

This list represents the top priorities for the grocery industry and the Wisconsin Grocers Association, but is not all-inclusive.

Taxes, Tax Exemptions, Fee Increases  The WGA OPPOSES any financial increase whether a tax increase, program fee increase, repeal of a tax exemption, or sales tax increase.  

Health Care The WGA OPPOSES all state mandated benefit coverage.  The WGA SUPPORTS tax exemptions and other forms of relief for businesses aimed at offsetting the continuously increasing costs of providing healthcare for employees.

Unfair Sales Act  The WGA SUPPORTS the Unfair Sales Act which prohibits products from being sold below cost.

Organized Retail Crime The WGA SUPPORTS legislation that addresses theft of property by organized retail thefts.

Product Liability  The WGA SUPPORTS legislation that improves Wisconsin’s product liability law by clarifying seller’s liability, product issues and remedial measures.

Counterfeit Coupons  The WGA SUPPORTS legislation that prohibits the redemption and manufacturing of counterfeit coupons.

Soda Machine Rental  The WGA OPPOSES the provision that requires soda vendors to charge a specific fee for renting soda vending machines.

Gift Cards  The WGA SUPPORTS legislation that requires disclosure of expiration dates and service fees on gift cards and OPPOSES legislation that prohibits expiration dates and service fees.

Beer Sampling The WGA SUPPORTS legislation that would allow Class A license holders to offer beer samples during limited hours, in limited quantities and by licensed bartenders.
